Impact Stories

Arthur was released from prison last February, after 44 years of incarceration. A positive, youthful 70-year old, he has been deeply engaged with ABW during the past year. He has a job with the City of Ann Arbor, the first ever formerly incarcerated person they have employed. He volunteers in the community and campaigned for Judge Karl Barr, a newly elected district court Judge in Washtenaw County. Arthur has his own apartment and although he has encountered many challenges, in particular in regards to technology, he is thriving.

Michael arrived at ABW this past year. He had recently been released from prison and a family member found ABW and brought him to see us. He has been working full time and has recently started attending school to fulfill his desire to be a trucker and obtain his CDL. Michael was recently in need of warmer clothes to work outside in Michigan winters and because he had to quit his job to attend CDL school full-time he could not afford them. A generous community member donated a gift card to enable Michael to purchase the clothing he needed to change his profession and the trajectory of his life.
